About the author
Rutendo Shadaya is a teenage New Zealand/Zimbabwean author. Her writing journey began at the age of 9 when she decided to write a book as a birthday present for her best friend. She self-published the book, Rachel and The Enchanted Forest in October 2020 at the age of 12.
In July 2022, she self-published Rachel and The Chevene Pirates her second book of the series.
Rutendo enjoys watching and playing tennis, netball, and soccer. In her free time, Rutendo read books, listens to music and hanging out with friends.

What inspired you to start writing
I was inspired to write this book as a birthday present for my best friend. Since she enjoyed reading and writing.
When did she start writing the book?
When she was 9 years old, about 2 months before her 10th birthday in 2018. It took her around 2 months to finish writing the first draft on 6 July.
What is her future plans in writing?
To improve her writing by going workshops or doing more courses. Rutendo plans to complete her series and write more books.
